Beta-glucan
Also known as Beta-glucan, Oat beta-glucan, Yeast beta-glucan, 1,3/1,4-beta-D-glucan, 1,3/1,6-beta-D-glucan
“CIR Expert Panel says: safe as used in cosmetics.”
Beta-glucan is a well-characterised polysaccharide assessed safe by CIR in the polysaccharide gums group review (IJT 35 Suppl. 1, 2016). Multiple human studies and reviews confirm tolerability and beneficial effects on skin hydration, barrier function, and anti-inflammation. No adverse reactions were reported in clinical trials. Source specificity (oat vs. yeast) affects molecular structure and bioactivity but not cosmetic safety classification; both are covered under the single INCI name and the CIR group assessment.
