Dimethicone Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer
Also known as Dimethicone vinyl crosspolymer, Silicone elastomer, DVDC, Silicone elastomer blend (when dispersed in carrier silicone)
“CIR Expert Panel says: safe as used in cosmetics.”
Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer (DVDC) is a three-dimensional silicone elastomer formed by crosslinking vinyl-functionalized dimethicone chains. In cosmetic formulations it is used as a texture modifier and skin-feel agent, imparting a silky, blurring, powder-like slip. The CIR Expert Panel assessed DVDC and related crosslinked silicone polymers as part of the 2014 silicone crosspolymer group assessment (Int J Toxicol 33(Suppl 2):65-115, 2014) and concluded the ingredient is safe as used in cosmetics (Finding=S, no conditions). The polymer network structure limits systemic absorption; DVDC does not penetrate intact skin at toxicologically meaningful levels.
Silicone elastomer that imparts a distinctive silky, powder-free slip and soft-focus blurring effect on skin
Three-dimensional crosslinked polymer network; does not penetrate intact skin
CIR Expert Panel concluded safe as used in cosmetics under the 2014 crosspolymer group assessment:65-115, 2014)
Chemically inert; no known sensitization or irritation potential at cosmetic use concentrations
